Identifying critical current and future disruptions in supply chains of industrial ecosystems

💡 Why is it important?

It is essential for companies to map their supply chain in order to identify critical dependencies and weaknesses in specific industrial ecosystem

🎯 How will RISE-SME Work toward this?

  • Risks of the ecosystems will be identified, quantified and enhanced with experiences from the industry.
  • There will be a mapping of the characteristic supply chains for each ecosystem identified, with corresponding disruptions, that will allow to identify critical dependencies and weaknesses.
  • Suitable models for the industrial ecosystems validated by experts will set strategies and digital technologies for supporting them.
  • Drivers and challenges for industrial ecosystems will focus on management and measurement of readiness and responsiveness of supply chains for disruptions to complete the analysis.

Creating models towards a resilient supply chain

💡 Why is it important?

A developing methodology or model that can assist companies in detecting and anticipating disruptions in their supply chains is needed. Such a model would contribute to reduce strategic dependencies on critical products, services or technologies.

🎯 How will RISE-SME Work toward this?

The implementation of models for each ecosystem helps to identify critical dependencies for strategically important resources and RISE-SME will develop quantitative models for each ecosystem. To achieve a reduction of these strategic risks, the quantitative models contribute by generating risk reducing alternatives using advanced technologies.

Boosting the adoption of advanced technologies in SMEs

💡 Why is it important?

Through the adoption of advanced technologies, the manufacturing industry will achieve operational independence. This operational improvement will be of paramount importance in ensuring performance.

🎯 How will RISE-SME Work toward this?

  • RISE-SME will identify the advanced technologies and alternate technology suppliers as a first step to support and make the knowledge available for the industry.
  • Will develop a cross-comparison of the identified technologies and the fields of application in different ecosystems identifying the degree of maturity and impact of their application. This will identify the main gaps, barriers and potential transfer solutions between ecosystems.

Building alliances among traditional and tech-savvy SMEs in industrial ecosystems

💡 Why is it important?

All EU industrial ecosystems should adapt to the post-crisis economic environment, with new consumer and industrial demand, changed competition and new resilience and sustainability objectives. This adaptation will be particularly challenging for SMEs. The economic recovery in Europe will only materialise if SMEs are properly supported by adequate actions and policy measures to adapt to changed value-chains and demand.

🎯 How will RISE-SME Work toward this?

A systems-thinking approach methodology will be developed, which will be used to consult a broad stakeholder community representing the selected ecosystems. A strategy for networking creation and management, collaboration mechanisms and collaborative actions will be deployed. A Business Model Game will summarise the use and application of the supply chain mapping.
